The Short Horror Film
Learning the ropes: Making this short horror film was my CMP group's first creative project together. We learnt the foundations of media production, such as creating storyboards and working with cameras and lighting. We also developed our teamwork skills and gained experience with sharing creative ideas. Although not perfect, this production acted as a starting point for what was to come, as we built up our confidence, skills, and learnt the ropes of the creative media production course.
The Depop Advert
Finding footing: This project was instrumental in helping me find my footing as a creative media student. It was a mock advertisement for the popular second-hand clothing app, Depop. By using the app's advertisement style, we were able to create a short film that showcased our skills in a creative and fun way. Furthermore, I was able to practice my skills in cinematography, editing, and sound design, as well as this project helping me build confidence as we continued to explore the production process.
The Documentary
Creative Ambition: This project was one that I wanted to take beyond what would be usually seen in a BTEC student documentary topic. After studying the various modes and variations in the genre, the final production introduced new factual work to my portfolio from the course. It taught me the pressures of holding the viewers attention in a longer format than my previous projects, as well as the challenges that arise when exploring a new genre as a whole.
The Music Video
Putting It All Together: For my final production as a part of this course, the prompt was to create a music video, which was complimented with a research project around the history and types of music videos, as well as their place in the industry. This project gave me an opportunity to showcase all the skills I had learnt over the previous two years, while also experimenting with a new genre. This project was nominated for Best Music Video at my college's 'BHAVTA Awards.'
